Goal shortfall, it’s a real thing! And a thing that trips us up major. I still fall victim to ‘all or nothing mindset’ in that “if I’m not going to run 13 miles, I might as well not run” (as one example). I consciously catch myself in this mindset when it happens and have trained myself to pick up on when I’m doing this. Here are a handful of simple tips to support you in achieving your goals faster. I’ll soon do a video on this (hell yes I’m bringing back YouTube! Subscribe to my channel here), though was so damn excited about sharing these points I had to toss them in a blog post for you first.
- Give your goal a deadline and set a calendar date to achieve it by. Unless you actually set a trigger date to achieve whatever it is you intend to set out and do, that want, achievement or goal wafts into the ether and the future. It’s happened to me and I’m sure it’s happened to you. I’ve also set deadlines and broke them multiple times. Why? Apparently in the past it’s been “okay” to break my word with myself. As of July 2017 I started keeping my word to myself and being far more non-negotiable than I have been in the past. Things in my world became ‘true, clear and material’ incredibly fast when I started doing this. I share this with you because I want you to achieve your goals faster! – like I’ve learned.
- Publicly declare it. Shit gets real when you write it down and when you say it out loud, am I right? There’s nothing worse than saying you’re doing to do something and then not following through with it. Hold yourself accountable by stating out loud to those who matter to you, to the general public, on social media, speaking on a stage, and otherwise – wherever you can share and declare with the masses to help you stay accountable, and to ensure that your want and goal gets to become real. By declaring what you want out loud, you automatically infuse it with higher level energy than otherwise, i.e. should you not declare and put into motion your goal ~ and timeline.
- Find others who are doing what you’re doing or want to do. Think about athletes. Their habits stem and continuously FLOW from their environments. If you’ve ever been an athlete or dated one (or are married to one), you know how much time teams spend together. Their habits rub off on each other. Their personal goals ignite on another. Their shared genius supports one another to breakthroughs. My point: find others who are doing what you want to be doing or who are doing what you’re doing and align yourself with each other to springboard each of your positions to new levels. Now that’s what I call a mutually beneficial and supportive relationship in goal achieving mastery.
- Enlist support. Back to athletics – and life in general, since we are training for life every damn day with every action we take. Every next level of your life is going to demand a new you and that next level is going to take mentorship and coaching to get you there – among other things. I may speak for myself, though I’m one of the mass tribe who has and does benefit from coaching and mentorship. Not only are higher level strategies critical to growth, having a sounding board and trusted confident is worth it’s weight in gold. Enlisting support can also literally look like enlisting the support of a team who you delegate things to. Support full circle in as many capacities as you can envision – will help you reach your goals faster.
- Be resourceful. When was the last time being resourceful didn’t help you in most areas of your life? Make trade-offs and look to what you already have on hand that can support this goal achieving journey of yours. Short term trade-offs of time and certain luxuries aren’t going to be the end of the world if they contribute to you 10X’ing your life. Right? Short term can mean months or as much as 5 years in this context 😉 Not 5 minutes. Stay focused on where you want to be vs where you are, while being grateful for your current blessings.
- Create a schedule that supports achieving this goal. What sabotages are goals like nobody’s business? Time, of course. If I had a nickel for every time I heard someone make a time-related excuse during the day, I would quickly be livign into Russian Oligarch status and soon purchasing a super yacht. Yeah, people talk about time scarcity, A LOT. Blocking specific periods of time to do certain things will get you from A to B far quicker than you living a ‘wide open’ and ‘ultra flexible’ schedule. If your schedule is super flexible, ask yourself this: am I a people pleaser and/or how valuable am I in my own life that I make sacrifices at my own expense so easily? I’m not saying don’t be flexible. What I am saying is ~ develop a schedule that both supports you and those in your life; those you serve, your family, friends and others and create time alignment. That in itself will help you achieve your goals faster!
- Mantra so hard . . . Yes, there it is. Visualize on the daily and include this as part of your morning ritual and/or time block periods of time throughout the day to do this. Live and speak as though you have already achieved this goal. This too, takes practise in believing yourself and vibrationally getting there – though practise in action is what it’s all about.
