The Last Invaluable Lesson I Learned in 2016

January 1, 2017 Leave a Comment

You are alive, what’s your excuse? I find myself really driving this message home whenever I’m feeling resistance. I envision the people that I’ve lost far too young in their lives and imagine them giving anything to be able to do the things I can do – simply because I’m alive. The smallest things like cooking a great meal from scratch to running outside, to going on an adventure across the world or taking a chances business, love and relationship-wise. Should a handful of these individuals be alive and have those chances, they would let no excuse hold them back.

The key individual and whose voice rings through my mind daily being, my mom. Now it’s your turn to think of who’s not here right now, gloriously living on earth, and who would give anything to have a few more chances, opportunities and days to get shit done and have fun doing it.

I sit here this morning, January 1, 2017, and reflect on one of the conversations I overheard yesterday and then jumped into while I was getting a manicure/pedicure at one of my favorite local haunts. I was sitting next to a lady who was talking about how her hands were ugly. I looked at her hands and they were not only functional but actually really gorgeous; nothing wrong with them. She then made a light-hearted joke that it would be nice if we could all stop in time aging-wise at 20. I knew she meant this humorously and she was a lovely lady inside and out I could tell from talking with her in furtherance. I also know I’ve made this light-hearted reference at some point – more so in regards to my metabolism when I was in the trend of “blaming time” instead of owning my shit and being solution-oriented. No judgement rendered, only observation.

All I could think to myself as I sat in this room of ladies, some gents, is how fortunate we all are. Fortunate beyond measure, yet when you open your ears and listen to much of society’s self-talk dialog, you’ll notice the words better, wish can’t and should. These words are prevalent because they’re easy outs.

Good things come to those who work for it, not wish for it and who find solutions instead of seeing problems.

Now let’s talk finance & business

Part of the reason your financial world is potentially in some kind of disarray (lack, stagnancy, simple disorganization or the absence of flow) is likely due in part that you’re making excuses in some other area of your existence. Check yourself, now’s the perfect time 🙂  Check your:

  • Commitments to your health
  • How you’re showing up in your relationships
  • Income earning avenues (are you authentically earning?)
  • Extracurricular activities
  • Extraordinary expenditures (where you’re investing)

I’ve been fortunate to live a life surrounded (mostly) by people who don’t make excuses and who do the things they say they’re going to do because they mean them and they really want them. It’s a matter of converting wants into reality instead of wishes into extended wishes.

Alike your financial and business goals (any goal for that matter), be realistic in your approach and consistent & flexible in your methods to achieving these goals. Live a life of I am and I will and commit. Here’s a handful of simple tips to help you out:

  • Make small commitments before making bigger commitments
  • Layer your goals and be intentional in your actions
  • Break your bigger goals down into bite sized pieces
  • Instead of overloading your plate, do a really great job of a few things first
  • Dream big and believe with conviction that you are capable
  • Be consistent and know when to adjust. If one method or approach isn’t working, taking a love-based and solution-oriented approach to shifting the sails instead of giving up.

The last valuable lesson I learned of 2016 is more so a reminder than a lesson, as it’s a phrase that runs in my head daily, it just happened to hit home in that moment at the right time and that is, “live a life of no excuses”. You’ve got two feet, a heart beat and you’re capable, so go do it! There’s thousands of people that would kill for your opportunities and the ones you have yet to create. It’s a privilege to be able to do so and a waste to not fulfill all that’s within you. The choice is always yours and you have the power to do all you wish, please remember that!

Live fully, love hard and work for that which you want beyond achieving it, with love-based solutions.

Wishing you crazy amounts of prosperity, abundance and love, and the health to match,

Sloan
