Comin' at you LIVE from beautiful and slightly overcast LA! This photo popped up yesterday on my Instagram feed from three years ago. This image was from the first professional shoot I had to debut my business online.
This was an outtake selfie once the shoot wrapped. The shoot was basically me with a massive coffee cup in front of my face, literally hiding my mug. I was confident in my abilities yet still lacked massive confidence in myself and clarity around what I was doing. Fast forward three years later to a place of clarity, peace, confidence and results in my life and business, as a product of continuously doing “the work” (committing to my personal development).
This post is about sharing a few key lessons I've learned since entering the online space (and not leaving). This post is also partially about what it took to overcome the rolling (continuous) fear/hurdles attached to creating what I have.
My transition in short form if you're new here: since exiting the brokerage/financial services industry in the capacity of being a licensed wealth pro (6-7 years ago) I've done many things consulting wise all solution oriented in nature bringing concepts to life and monetizing them. I.e. Designing efficient business models (for professionals and brick & mortar businesses), and creating online businesses for those wanting to creating that type of profession and life. Those items, plus creating and co-founding an eco-luxury dog grooming line, and creating a blending and pureeing travel device.
Rewinding for context-sake: back in 2011 I wanted to start a blog and create a location-free business outside the walls of the bank/brokerage world yet I was held back by judgement (lack of confidence) and the voice in my head rang loudly with “who am I” and “I am already behind” (those crushing it back in 2011 at the time).
I created my blog and started writing in August of 2014. I actually sent my good friend Brooke an email declaring “I'm officially a blogger” on August 24, 2014. LOL. I didn't have the guts to publish my website until the fall of 2015 after my mother passed away. Her sudden passing was a huge wake-up call to quit sitting on my hands (despite taking action) and go bigger faster. Time waits for no one and once its past its past. I also didn't announce any of my business services or really tell anyone I had a blog/website until 6 months after publishing it. Why? I still lacked the confidence.
Fast forward to the top lessons I've learned in starting an online business/presence (more to follow in another post):
- Be consistent in at least one area of your presence/business. Change the message, change the offer, change the purpose (you learn as you go, it's all about growth, transformation and discovery), but keep at least one area consistent. For me, this has been sharing the truth of my journey and wisdom in areas of business, personal development and wealth/money/finance through my writing (blog posts, posts on social media).
- Start now, yesterday, SOONER! Literally. Did you read the above? I wanted to start in 2011 and really didn't have the courage until the fall of 2015 to publicly exist online. I lacked confidence despite knowing my talent and possessing a deep long time desire.
- Reassess, get clear and stay the course. If you really want to create time and location freedom (and monetize), keep going.
- Do not compare your apples to someone else's oranges or your Day 1 to someone else's year 6. It's defeating.
More lessons to come, including a huge one on what to invest in and in what order, etc. when you're starting up, though the above lessons were the ones on my heart this morning in hindsight as I reflect.
The big punchline: my lack of self-worth and confidence led to inaction.
No matter what education or experience I had nothing was moving the needle forward until I really honed in on what was inside, aka until I dove deeper into personal development (which I'd already been doing the bulk of my life). Jump here to note my accolades if you're curious.
What is took to get to that place of self-worth and confidence wasn't the education or “systems or formulas” I learned and later created, what it took was deep soul diving and cleansing and clearing in practical and spiritual (energetic) personal work.
The thing about crystallizing any concept (as I do time and again for my clients), is that without the lifeblood and SOUL you pour into it, nothing works.
Your lifeblood, soul and ENERGY you pack behind and into everything are only be as powerful (and ROI laden) as your personal growth hence the critical importance of personal development in both a practical and spiritual sense. The two are most impactful and transformative when they coexist.
Why I share the above: I could have started MUCH earlier but I let myself stand in my own way. Time is precious. Are you doing the same; standing in your own way?
It's easy to delay and stand in your own way around the things that really matter to you because what if you don't succeed and what if something along the way causes you pain? Inaction protects you in theory, when in reality inaction hurts you the most.
I'm here to offer you the practical and energetic tools to up your game and have you get out of your own way. Today you get to say yes to going after a relationship you desire, creating time freedom, earning more money, training for that triathlon, going on that trip that might change your life, etc. Whatever you've been putting off is exactly what you get to create a commitment to bringing to life.
It's my mission for you to take action in your life (quit sitting on your perfectionist hands wasting precious time) and starting FEELING your best by living out your soul and heart's desires. To become your best self and gain the confidence and personal power it takes to pump the lifeblood into ALL that you wish to grow and master; business, career, relationships, health, etc.
As part of my mission in time and accessibility (for both you and I), I've created an online course called, “Personal Development for Smart People: practical & spiritual tools to upgrade all areas of your life”. I would love to have you join me. We start SOON. Jump here to register and learn more.
Stay tuned tomorrow for more lessons on the online business front as today, I must run.
I LOVE YOU,
